Friends of the Botanic Garden

Are you interested in becoming a Member of the Friends? Many of our members volunteer their services to  the Botanic Garden. Many more support the Garden with membership dues and donations. A quarterly newsletter keeps all members informed about changes and "what's on" in the Garden.

Call 66484188, and ask for Judy if you are interested in becoming a member or volunteering your time.

Members probably have only one thing in common - an enjoyment in contributing their time to a worthwhile co-operative project, in a beautiful environment.

Working in conjunction with the Coffs Harbour City Council, the Friends develop and maintain the Botanic Garden. A not-for- profit organisation of volunteers, their aim is to promote, stimulate interest in, and foster community awareness of the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden.

The volunteers are involved in activities including:

Working Bees,

Propagating plants for sale,

Seed Bank,

Herbarium,

Guiding,

Education,

Information Centre and Shop,

Garden Kiosk/Garden Cafe,

Pavilion and Entertainment,

Fundraising for the Garden.

International connections are made through the Seed Bank, which has a catalogue made available to Botanic Gardens throughout the world. This also provides a valuable source of seed for rare and endangered plants.

The Herbarium stores pressed plants, seeds and flowers, and volunteer caretakers of the Herbarium use these for plant identification, a service available to academic institutions, government departments and individuals.
