Prime Display

The Prime Display area, an area of about 1 hectare, is a miniature garden in its own right. The main path starts here and leads to all the main areas of the Garden. Past the Information Centre the entrance widens and the immediate view takes in the small pond and fountain directly ahead, the Pavilion and grassy area on the left, and a beautiful water feature on the right which surrounds an islet in which is planted a tropical African Bottle Palm. A tall traveller's palm is an outstanding feature next to the pond. A pergola walk is draped with orange trumpet vine (this blooms in August) and the showy Australia Fraser Island Vine (Tecomanthe) . Gardens to either side of the pergola display a variety of native and exotic species including the Gymaea lily, and several lillypillies.

Most years a satin bower bird builds his bower in one of the gardens in this area, and he and his harem seem to tolerate visitors even when they become nosy!

The Pavilion and grassy areas. A popular picnic spot, and also for weddings, this area is also used for concerts and even drama performances.

The Vireya Garden:Walk through the pergolas and towards the Mangrove boardwalk to discover, on the left, a fine colourful display of tropical rhododendrons (vireyas).

Between the Pavilion area and the main path can be found some bush tucker and Australian native plants including pandanus, walking stick palms, Bangalow palms and a midginberry shrub. Further along the main path on the left is a display of azaleas and another of hydrangeas -a colourful spot in spring.
