The Garden Logo
In October 1983 a competition was held to design a logo for the Botanic garden. Prize money was $50.00 and 40 entries were received.
The winning entry was submitted by an Australian graphic designer who was working in England, but happened to be on holiday in Coffs Harbour at that time.
The design is a stylized version of a small local tree called a “Geebung”. The yellow flower at the centre is about the size of a five cent piece.
A Geebung, with a descriptive plate, grows at the entrance to the Garden. The original tree was planted by the late Hon. Sir Alexander Beattie at the official opening of the Garden in September 1988.
