February 19th. 2012 Caxton Street Jazz Band: Hot classic jazz from one of Australia's best known jazz bands. The band's roots are in the brilliant jazz of the early 1900's. Many entertainers have influenced the repertoire of the Caxton St Jazz band: early Ellington, Armstrong, Moreton, Beiderbecke and Bechet to name a few.The music is guaranteed to be tuneful, hot and rhythmic. This is an evening to remember!
February 26th. Jugalug String Band. The music produced by Jugalug is fun and exciting, appealing to audiences of all ages. Many of the instruments featured in this concert are unique. Predominantly resonator instruments, these date back to the early part of the 20th. Century. The Jugalug Stringband plays a repertoire of music based upon the styles of the early string bands of the 20th. Century - comprising Jazz, jugband, blues, prewestern swing and ragtime. Come along to a most entertaining concert and meet some new sounds and the people and instrument responsible for producing them. You are in for a treat!
March 4th. Roger Burke Quartet with Phill Stitt on vocals. Roger plays saxophone and flute, and his various groups have been a mainstay of the Jazz scene in Bellingen and beyond for many years. Loosely described as "modern mainstream", the band draws material from the vast repertoire of standards by Gershwin, Kern, Ellington and others. This year the band is joined by Phill Stitt supplying vocals.
March 11th. Swingfonia. We end this jazz series with the hottest choir in the region! Comprised of regional singers from a range of musical backgrounds, this group is united in a love of jazz and blues music. Combined with the "smokin' hot keys of talented local pianist Mei Wei Lim, Swingfonia has wowed audiences in recent months. A grand piano will be brought in specially to heighten the excitement of the show. Swingfonia is family and community oriented, and ticket price for this show has been discounted to $10 per person for this reason.
